![]() ![]() The most dangerous thing I ever did was being born in Australia. So I tried to get it out by helping it, but it slapped me in the face to the floor. In the 1940s, Fred Berry ( Junior ) and an employee of Seattle City Light blasted out the crib dam. “I was feeding a kangaroo that had something in its eye. Fred Berry ( Senior ) did carpentry work on the flume. “Funnily enough I was actually punched in the face by a kangaroo when I was younger, true story,” he says. He does have one great ‘roo story he swears is true. Among the stories was, “We used to ride kangaroos to school, we used to have pet kangaroos and we’d ride in their pouch, that’s how we’d get to and from most places,” he says. It’s all heady stuff for a kid from Australia who says when he first came to America he used to make up stories about his native land because people here were fascinated and not familiar with the land down under. I just want to try writing for other people cause it’s quite exciting.” That was definitely quite surreal.”Īt only 24 with seemingly the whole music world at his disposal, Streten has had the expected reaction: Why not do it all? “I’d like to actually work with a lot of other people and whether it’s someone who is completely unknown who I love and think is a talent, maybe I’ll work with them, or like maybe I’ll work with some of the biggest pop stars and write music for the,” he says. “I kind of went up to his door, he answered and was like, ‘Hey, come inside.’ I realized I was wearing these silly pink board shorts, and I’m at f**king Beck’s house. ![]() I was just wearing these pink board shorts and a t-shirt and a backpack,” he recalls. “It was funny cause I just went over there, and I hadn’t really thought about it. Streten was discovered and signed by Future Classic in 2011, after submitting the tracks 'Sleepless', 'Over You' and 'Paper Thin' in an original artists competition managed by the Australian record company. He’s also garnered a lot of new fans in the music community, meaning some very high-profile collaborators, including Beck on “Tiny Cities" and Vince Staples.
